The New Orleans Privateers defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 9-6 in a 10-inning game on May 5 at Tigue Moore Field.
This game was significant as it ended the Ragin’ Cajuns’ five-game winning streak and marked Andrew Gipson as only the second coach in program history to beat Louisiana in his first matchup for New Orleans. The last time this happened was with Tom Schwaner in 1986.
The Privateers led going into the bottom of the ninth, but Colt Brown’s two-run triple tied the score for Louisiana. A defensive play by Eli Tidwell kept the game alive, sending it into extra innings. In the tenth inning, Carson Hepworth and Miles Curley drew walks before Kruise Newman was hit by a pitch. Owen Smith was also hit by a pitch with bases loaded, putting New Orleans ahead. Dathan Cummings followed with a single that brought home two more runs.
In relief, Lane Alack entered during the bottom of the tenth after two runners reached base. He helped secure victory with a double play and then forced Blaze Rodriguez to ground out for the final out. Alack earned his team-leading fourth save of the season.
Curley reached base all five times he came to bat, recording two hits and three walks. Dylan Biddick and Evan Rogers each scored twice while Rex Henderson started on the mound, holding Louisiana to one hit and one run over more than three innings pitched.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will begin a three-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi starting Thursday night.
