The New Orleans Privateers women’s basketball team ended their non-conference schedule with a 95-71 loss to Tulane on Sunday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tulane established an early advantage, opening with a 12-2 run in the first four minutes as four different players contributed points. The Privateers managed to steady their play after the initial surge, and the remainder of the half saw both teams score evenly.
New Orleans forced 14 turnovers from Tulane in the first half. Shanihya Brown led scoring for the Privateers with nine points in the first quarter, while Brialle Washington added seven points before halftime. Washington’s three-pointer late in the second quarter brought New Orleans within ten, but Tulane led 39-29 at halftime.
In the second half, Jayla Kimbrough narrowed Tulane’s lead to seven points with a jumper that made it 50-43. However, Tulane responded by scoring 45 points over the final 15 minutes to secure a comfortable win.
Tulane finished shooting 52.4 percent overall and just over 54 percent after halftime, converting on 11 of their 27 attempts from beyond the arc. Four Green Wave players scored in double figures; Kendall Sneed led with 18 points, CC Mays recorded a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds), and Amira Mabry contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.
For New Orleans, Brown had her second game this season scoring at least 20 points while also recording six steals, five rebounds, and four assists. Washington finished with 13 points and five steals. Kimbrough added ten points and five rebounds, while Aaliyah Ellis and Hailee Brennen each scored six. The Privateers forced a total of 24 turnovers from Tulane.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will host UIW on Thursday, Dec. 18 at Lakefront Arena for their final game before the holiday break; tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
