The New Orleans Privateers women’s tennis team lost a close match to the Northwestern State Lady Demons, 4-3, on March 13 at the Jack Fischer Tennis Complex.

The match was decided when Sofi Garcia of Northwestern State secured a win at flight five singles. Garcia won her match with set scores of 6-2 in both the first and third sets, giving her team the final point needed for victory.

Ananya Dhankhar earned a win for New Orleans at flight six singles after a tough three-set battle. Dhankhar took the first set 7-5, dropped the second, but came back strong in the third set to claim victory by a double break.

New Orleans also saw success from its top two players. Fleur Sprengers continued her undefeated season with a straight-set win over Honoka Umeda, improving her singles record to 9-0. Kateryna Kalistratova moved to 7-1 on the year after defeating Maria Farina in straight sets as well.

Northwestern State claimed the doubles point by winning matches at flights one and three. In singles play, Martina Acebedo and Athina Grigoriadou added points for Northwestern State with straight-set wins at their respective positions.

Looking ahead, the Privateers will travel to Nacogdoches to face Stephen F. Austin on Sunday.
