The No. 17 Tulane bowling team qualified for the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships after maintaining fourth place at the sectional qualifier held at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 15.
This qualification is significant as only the top four teams from each of the four sectionals advance to the ITC, making Tulane’s consistent performance crucial for their advancement.
Over two days, each team bowled a total of 64 Baker games. After the first day and 32 games, Tulane was in fourth place with a pin count of 6,064 among a field of 15 teams. On Sunday, they added another 2,851 pins in the first session and finished with a total score of 11,849 after all sessions were completed. This allowed them to hold onto fourth place and secure their spot at next month’s ITC.
Other teams qualifying from the Fort Worth sectional include No. 12 North Carolina A&T (first place), No. 5 Louisiana Tech (second), and No. 15 Newman (third). Teams advancing from other sectionals are No. 13 McKendree, No. 20 St. Vincent College, No. 22 Duquesne, Trine (Pittsburgh); No. 1 Jacksonville State, Lindenwood, SCAD, Cumberland University (Smyrna); and No. 7 Maryville, No. 10 Sacred Heart, Mount Mercy, and No. 23 Central Missouri (Addison).
The sixteen qualifying teams will compete at The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay, Wisconsin for the ITC from April 15 to April 18.
Before heading to Green Bay for the national championship event, Tulane will host the Conference USA Bowling Championship at Colonial Lanes in Harahan starting Wednesday, March 18 through Sunday, March 22.
