The New Orleans Police Department announced on March 25 that officers arrested a fugitive, Jullian Jefferson, after a six-hour standoff in the city’s Fifth District. The incident began around 3:00 p.m. on March 24 when NOPD Special Operations Divisions officers, along with Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agents, Homeland Security Investigations officers, and Kenner Police officers arrived at a home in the 2400 block of North Galvez to arrest Jefferson.
According to police, several residents fled the home upon their arrival and informed authorities that Jefferson was inside. He then barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to comply with orders to exit. Due to his status as a violent offender and concerns about weapons in the home, SWAT was called at approximately 5:24 p.m., leading to an established perimeter and evacuation of nearby homes while negotiations took place.
At about 9:25 p.m., Jefferson surrendered without incident. He was taken to a hospital for assessment due to medical issues unrelated to his apprehension or the SWAT response. Authorities identified Jefferson as being wanted for multiple incidents including an aggravated battery with a firearm from July 2025 on North Claiborne Avenue where he allegedly struck a woman with his fists before hitting her in the head with a firearm.
Police also allege that in September of 2025, Jefferson shot another man during an altercation on France Street, resulting in aggravated battery by shooting charges. On December 25, 2025, he is accused of striking yet another man with a firearm before shooting him in the leg on London Avenue.
In addition to these charges, police say that once released from medical care Jefferson will be booked for resisting arrest, being a felon in possession of firearms—after two weapons were found—and possessing illegal narcotics discovered at the scene. Officials note additional charges may be forthcoming as investigations continue.
