The New Orleans Police Department announced on Apr. 7 that it is investigating a homicide that took place at the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street.

Police said Fifth District officers responded to reports of an auto accident and gunfire around 5:01 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old Hispanic man inside one of the vehicles involved, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to police, the driver of the second vehicle fled before officers arrived at the scene. The identity of the victim will be released by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office after notifying family members. The coroner will also determine the official cause of death following an autopsy.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to gather more information about what happened. Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge related to this incident to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives or provide anonymous tips through Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans by phone or online.

Further updates may be provided as new details emerge in this case.
