The New Orleans Police Department announced on Mar. 26 that it is investigating a fatal shooting in the 1400 block of Tulane Avenue, which resulted in the death of one adult male and left two others critically injured.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m., when officers from the First and Eighth Districts responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims. Upon arrival, police found three individuals with gunshot wounds. All were transported to a local hospital, where one later died from his injuries. The other two victims remain in critical condition.

Investigators said that the deceased individual was identified as the perpetrator in this case. According to police, “the perpetrator initiated a physical altercation with one victim as the victim was walking in the area.” During this struggle, “the perpetrator produced a firearm and shot the victim.” Police also reported that “a second victim, identified as a Tulane University maintenance employee, was also shot by the perpetrator while walking in the proximity of the incident.”

As events unfolded, authorities said that “as the perpetrator attempted to flee the scene, a Tulane University Police officer engaged the armed subject, discharging their service weapon and striking the perpetrator.” The suspect was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

A separate investigation into this officer-involved shooting is being conducted by NOPD’s Force Investigation Team (FIT). The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release further details about identity and cause of death after notifying next of kin.

Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact NOPD Homicide Detectives at (504) 658-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or online at www.crimestoppersgno.org.
