The New Orleans Privateers and Nicholls Colonels each secured a win in their doubleheader on May 2, splitting the opening games of their baseball series at Ray E. Didier Field.
The first game saw the Privateers take an early lead in the third inning when Miles Curley reached on an error, allowing Jayden Adcox to score. The Privateers built on this momentum with three home runs and a four-run ninth inning, ultimately winning 10-4. Dylan Biddick hit two home runs, including a solo shot in the fifth inning, while Kruise Newman added a three-run homer in the seventh. Bryson Goff held Nicholls scoreless until the seventh inning to earn his fifth win of the season.
Nicholls attempted a late comeback with four runs over two innings, highlighted by Fisher Ingersoll’s home run. However, extra-base hits from Biddick, Eli Tidwell, and Owen Smith helped secure the Privateers’ victory. Skylar Jones pitched 2.1 innings in relief for New Orleans.
In game two, Nicholls overcame an early deficit after trailing 8-1 through three innings. The Colonels rallied behind Greyson Shafer’s two home runs and took an eventual lead following Nico Rijo-Berger’s two-run single in the sixth inning. Logan Terry extended that lead with a two-run homer in the seventh as Nicholls won 11-10.
New Orleans closed within one run after Smith singled through left field to drive in two more runs off Cole Poirrier but could not complete their comeback as Eli Waters recorded his save for Nicholls by shutting down New Orleans over the final innings.
The series is scheduled to conclude with another game set for Sunday afternoon.
