Privateers men’s tennis edged out by College of Charleston in close contest

The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team narrowly lost to the College of Charleston Cougars with a 4-3 score on Tuesday at the Privateer Tennis Center.

The Privateers started strong by securing the doubles point. Peter Kieslinger and Jerall Yasin won their match at flight three with a 6-2 result. After the Cougars took flight two, Jacob Rouleau-Mailly and Gonzalo Cotter clinched the deciding doubles match at flight one, winning 7-5.

In singles play, College of Charleston’s Dani Farran evened the score with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at flight four. Carlos Melgosa restored New Orleans’ lead after a close tiebreak in the first set and a dominant second set for a 7-6 (4), 6-0 win at flight three.

The Cougars responded by winning the next three matches. Jakub Solarski took his match after winning a first set tiebreak and finishing with a 6-3 second set. Eddie Vo came from behind to win at flight five, while Juan Rojas secured his match by taking the last three games of the first set en route to a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Beltran Fernandez earned the final point for New Orleans. He dropped the opening set but forced a third after taking a tight second-set tiebreaker, then won decisively in the deciding set against Leon Harder.

The Privateers will host North Dakota on March 12 at 2 p.m.
