Keldrick Turner, Yoran Kabengele-Kabala, and Anais Sulpice qualified for additional event finals at the Southland Outdoor Championships on May 15 after their performances at Homer Bryce Stadium.
Their achievements allow the New Orleans Privateers to compete in six championship finals scheduled for Saturday evening in Nacogdoches. This continued progress highlights the team’s strong showing throughout the competition.
Turner advanced to his second Southland Conference finals by winning his 400-meter heat with a time of 47.94, which is among the fastest in school history. Nyah Harrison was the fastest Privateer in the women’s 400 meters, finishing 18th overall with a time of 56.93. Katie Burnett recorded a personal-best time of 1:00.83, while Serenity Harris finished in 1:01.86.
Kabengele-Kabala also earned another finals appearance by winning his heat in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.30 seconds, maintaining his position among UNO’s all-time best performers in this event. Daryl Bachmann and Olamipo Ladipo finished just outside qualification with times of 10.45 and 10.484 respectively.
Sulpice became a double finalist after placing second in her preliminary race for the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:11.20, ranking fifth among all competitors on Friday and sixth-fastest ever at UNO.
Brandt Blanchard led UNO men in the men’s 800 meters by finishing eleventh with a time of 1:51.98; Jose Manuel Rodriguez and Grant Young also competed strongly but did not advance to finals.
