The New Orleans Privateers will play their last midweek baseball game of the regular season against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Tigue-Moore Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 4.

This matchup marks an important test for both teams as they approach the end of their respective regular seasons. The Privateers recently secured a series win over Nicholls, taking two out of three games and finishing with a 12-10 victory in extra innings on Sunday. The team now holds a record of four wins and two losses in extra-inning contests this year.

Over the weekend, New Orleans scored a total of 32 runs against Nicholls, hitting .304 as a team and recording a .544 slugging percentage with 14 extra-base hits. Dylan Biddick contributed three home runs during the series, while five players each scored at least four runs. The Privateers also stole ten bases during their time in Thibodaux, including seven steals in Sunday’s finale—their highest single-game total since April 2021.

Sophomore Dathan Cummings has improved his performance recently, going 13-for-33 at bat over his last ten games and raising his batting average from .222 to .295. As a team, New Orleans is hitting .344 with the bases loaded this season; Evan Rogers is four-for-six in those situations. Additionally, Owen Smith leads the roster with sixteen two-out runs batted in as they enter the final week.

This meeting will be the first between New Orleans and Louisiana since 2019 when the Privateers won by a score of 10-3 in Lafayette. Since leaving the Sun Belt Conference after 2010, New Orleans has lost five out of seven meetings against Louisiana.

Louisiana enters Tuesday’s contest on a five-game winning streak after sweeping Georgia State over the weekend and currently holds a record of thirty wins and eighteen losses with two weeks left before postseason play.
