The New Orleans Privateers women’s tennis team earned a narrow 4-3 victory against the Southeastern Lady Lions on Mar. 28 at the Privateer Tennis Center, winning the doubles point and securing singles victories in the top three flights.
This match was significant for the Privateers as it highlighted their strong performance in both doubles and singles play, contributing to their standing within conference competition.
Danique Vermue and Fleur Sprengers won a close match at flight one doubles, defeating Bente Bierma and Paige Duncan 7-5. Naila Krifa and Nouray Khaled added another doubles win with a decisive 6-2 result at flight three. The pairing of Vermue and Sprengers improved their overall record to 8-3 together, including a 3-1 mark against conference opponents.
In singles play, Sprengers continued her impressive season by moving to a 12-1 record after conceding only three games in her straight sets win. Of her total sets won this year, more than half have been achieved while allowing two games or fewer per set. Kateryna Kalistratova also reached double-digit wins (10-2) following her straight sets victory over Mariam Makashvili; she has now won five of her last six matches. Khaled secured another key point by winning her match in three sets after dropping the second set but rebounding strongly in the third.
Southeastern claimed victories in flights four through six, each in straight sets.
Looking ahead, the Privateers are scheduled to face McNeese on Monday at 11 a.m.
