Tulane athletes Cara Salsberry and Blezzin Kimutai competed on May 28 at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex during the second day of the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round. Both placed in the top 22 of their respective events, with Salsberry finishing 22nd in the hammer throw and Kimutai taking 21st place in the women’s 10,000 meters.
The day’s events began with Salsberry’s performance in the women’s hammer throw. She achieved a personal best mark of 59.87 meters, surpassing her previous program record of 59.54 meters. Despite this accomplishment, she did not qualify for finals in Eugene, Oregon, finishing ten spots away from qualification.
In the evening session, Kimutai represented Tulane in the women’s 10,000-meter race. Her time of 34:09.60 earned her a spot just nine places short of national qualification.
Tulane is scheduled to continue competing over the next two days at the same venue. On Friday, Silas Kiptanui will participate in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at 4:40 p.m., while Salsberry will return on Saturday to compete in the women’s discus event at noon.
The university also provided information regarding ticket purchases for upcoming athletic campaigns and encouraged supporters to follow Tulane Athletics on social media platforms.
