The New Orleans Privateers baseball team defeated the Jackson State Tigers 7-0 on Mar. 24, with six pitchers combining for a six-hit shutout at Bob Braddy Field.
This result marks only the second time in 26 games that Jackson State has been held scoreless this season. The Privateers’ pitching staff—Tyler Velino, Skylar Jones, Gus Rogers, Reid Leonard, Luke Lycette and Cortland Clarke—limited the Tigers to six hits while recording nine strikeouts and three walks. The staff threw 62 percent of their 132 pitches for strikes.
Offensively, Eli Tidwell led the way by driving in the game’s first run with a double in the fourth inning after Adrian Dominguez and Eddie Castillo drew walks. The Privateers added runs in each of the next two innings: Dominguez hit an RBI single in the fifth to score Kareh Valentin, and Tidwell scored on an error following Evan Rogers’ bunt in the sixth.
The eighth inning saw New Orleans break open the game with four more runs. Tidwell tripled to bring home Kruise Newman; Valentin reached base on one of five errors committed by Jackson State; and Dylan Biddick added another run with an RBI ground out.
Tidwell finished with two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Dominguez and Newman also had two hits each while Castillo reached base twice via a hit and a walk. On the mound, Jones and Leonard each struck out three batters over two innings apiece.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will travel to Southeastern for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
