Sofie Groeninger finished the opening day of the women’s heptathlon in ninth place with 3,156 points on April 9 at the 44 Farms Team Invitational held at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas.

Groeninger is among 25 athletes competing in the event, which began with the 100-meter hurdles. She recorded a time of 14.37 seconds to secure her first top-10 finish, placing tenth. In the high jump, she reached a mark of 1.57 meters for twelfth place. Groeninger’s strongest performance came in the shot put, where she achieved a winning throw of 13.56 meters, outdistancing runner-up Juliette Laracuente-Huebner from Cincinnati by more than half a meter (12.92 meters). She ended her day with a season-best time of 26.40 seconds in the 200 meters.

At this stage of competition, Laracuente-Huebner leads with a total score of 3,617 points while Groeninger sits ninth on the leaderboard with three events remaining.

The heptathlon will continue tomorrow starting with the long jump at 11:30 a.m., followed by javelin and then the concluding event—the 800 meters—at E.B Cushing Stadium. Other Tulane athletes are also scheduled to compete Friday afternoon and evening across field and track events including hammer throw, long jump, discus, as well as several running events such as women’s and men’s sprints and distance races.
