Tulane University bowlers Juanelyz Solla and Valeria Colon are set to represent Puerto Rico at the 14th International Friendship Youth Bowling Championship in Doha, Qatar. The event, hosted by the Qatar Bowling Federation (QBF), begins on Wednesday, February 11.

The QBF annually invites nations from around the world to participate in this friendly competition. This year’s participants include Czechia, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and host nation Qatar. Solla and Colon will make up half of Puerto Rico’s four-member team.

The championship features four events: singles matches for boys and girls on the opening day after practice rounds; doubles play on Thursday; a team competition on Friday; and the Masters Finals on Saturday. In the girls’ division, the top six overall plus two bowlers from each country—18 in total—will advance to the Masters Finals. This final stage includes six games with half of previous pinfalls carried forward. The top eight then move into knockout elimination rounds until a champion is determined.

After their participation in Doha concludes, Solla and Colon will return to join Tulane’s No. 17-ranked squad at The National Bowling Association’s TNBA Open in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. That tournament runs from February 27 through March 1.
