The South Florida men’s tennis team defeated Tulane 4-3 on Apr. 12 at the Goldring Tennis Center in New Orleans. South Florida, ranked No. 63 nationally, overcame an early deficit after losing the doubles point to secure the win.
This match result brings South Florida’s season record to 10-13 and drops Tulane’s record to 7-11.
Tulane started strong in doubles play, with Alec Gaudin and Piotr Andrzejewski winning their match 6-4. Hady ElKordy and Asaf Friedler followed with a close victory of 7-5, giving Tulane the initial advantage by taking the doubles point.
In singles competition, Daniel Phillips secured a win for Tulane at the No.1 position with scores of 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. Gaudin also earned a singles victory at No.3 after a three-set battle that ended 6-4, 4-6, (10-8). However, South Florida won four out of six singles matches to claim the overall team victory.
Tulane will travel next week to Tulsa for the American Athletic Conference Tournament held at Michael D. Case Tennis Center from Thursday through Sunday. Tournament seeds are expected to be announced Monday.
