The Southeastern Lions secured an 11-1 victory over the New Orleans Privateers on Mar. 28 at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, retaining the Pontchartrain Bowl trophy.
The game began with New Orleans taking an early lead after Kruise Newman hit an RBI triple to score Dylan Biddick. Bryson Goff pitched a nine-pitch first inning, giving the Privateers initial momentum.
Southeastern responded in the second inning by scoring four runs. After a leadoff walk and a double from Rhett Centanni, Alex Perry delivered a two-run double following a hit by pitch that loaded the bases. The Lions maintained their lead for the remainder of the game.
In the third inning, Perry extended Southeastern’s advantage with a home run to left field, bringing their lead to 8-1. The Lions added three more runs in the fourth on Connor Cuff’s two-out home run. Lakin Polk pitched six innings for Southeastern, allowing only four hits and one run to earn his third win of the season. Austin Minichino closed out the seventh inning with two strikeouts after allowing two baserunners.
This win marks the seventh time in eleven years that Southeastern has claimed the Pontchartrain Bowl trophy. Key contributions came from Perry and Cuff, who combined for nine runs batted in, while Cuff, Centanni and Peyton Woods each scored three runs.
For New Orleans, all eight hits were recorded by players batting fourth through seventh in their lineup. Biddick finished with a single and a walk; Brock Hill threw two scoreless innings using just 21 pitches; Newman, Owen Smith and Jayden Adcox each contributed one hit.
The series will conclude Sunday with a scheduled first pitch at 1 p.m.
