38.3% unemployed in New Orleans in 2017

38.3 percent of New Orleans residents between 16 and 65 years old were unemployed in 2017, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The percentage of unemployed residents was less than the statewide total of 40 percent for this demographic group. In 2017 the total New Orleans population reached 317,353.

Out of 195,759 people who had a job, 790 were employed in the Armed Forces and 194,969 belonged to the civilian labor force.

The total unemployment numbers include residents of all ages who are not working.
