NEW ORLEANS —The City of New Orleans today provided updates from the first Lincoln Beach Redevelopment Master Plan Community Milestone Meeting that was held last Tuesday, Jan. 23. This meeting provided residents with an opportunity to hear directly from the City and the redevelopment firm, Sasaki Associates, Inc., and to share their valuable input on how the site can be revitalized to benefit the community.
“We’ve assembled a project team that is providing residents a safe place to share how they want to preserve the history of Lincoln Beach’s story for New Orleans today and in the future, while also creating a vision for how we can enjoy the new life we’re giving to Lincoln Beach,” said Cheryn Robles, Environmental Affairs Administrator. “Residents are reminded that Lincoln Beach is not currently a safe place to recreate and to steer clear of the site until we can make it a safe place to recreate.”
Approximately 200 residents attended the two public meetings, which were held at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans East. Overall, the community expressed a tremendous amount of support for redeveloping this beachfront site as well as the adjoining eight-acre green space.
The next meeting will be held in March, with the exact date and location to be determined in the coming weeks. Interested residents can view the online meeting survey at lincolnbeach.nola.gov, where it will be available until Feb. 16. The full presentation, engagement activity sheets and a photo gallery are available on the website as well.
“It was great to see so many community members participate on Tuesday, and everyone there added value to the master plan,” said Blyss Wallace, President of the Community Advisory Committee and New Orleans for Lincoln Beach. “The youth really stepped up to facilitate and also to speak about their vision for Lincoln Beach. TVG did an excellent job bringing the City, the community and Sasaki together to assess where we are so we know how to move forward with the development of Lincoln Beach.”
