NEW ORLEANS — This week, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and a delegation of State and City officials will travel to Las Vegas, NV to participate in the official National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl Handoff activities. The ceremony is hosted by NFL officials, includes host committees from Las Vegas and New Orleans and will take place on Monday, Feb. 12, following the completion of Superbowl LVIII. It will provide a real-time playbook of all Super Bowl LIX pre-game preparations necessary for hosting the iconic event on and off the field.
As previously stated during the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Advisory Council public meeting and following a recent community event, Mayor Cantrell is honored to join the Louisiana and New Orleans delegation traveling to Las Vegas to represent New Orleans as only the second city to host a record-setting 11 Super Bowls. Additionally, next year’s game will be the eighth Super Bowl played in the Caesars Superdome.
The delegation participating in the official Handoff press conference includes New Orleans Saints and Pelicans Owner Gayle Benson, Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, Super Bowl LIX Host Committee Chair Marcus Brown, other State and City officials, sports and tourism leaders and public safety personnel. Members of the group will participate in a series of meetings and events hosted by NFL executives to ensure New Orleans is prepared to successfully host Super Bowl LIX in 2025. Meeting topics include Future Committee, the Louisiana State Police 2024 Annual Briefing, Supplier Diversity, Superbowl Decore and Budget and Audit, among others.
Next year, New Orleans will once again be placed on the global stage in front of millions of international viewers, granting the City a perfect opportunity to showcase how it is the best-equipped to host major special events such as this. The unique cultural celebrations and renowned hospitality of the city will also be on full display for all those that will be traveling to New Orleans for the Super Bowl and related events.
Following the Super Bowl Handoff event, Mayor Cantrell will participate in the traditional Lundi Gras Celebration & Ceremony at Spanish Plaza with King and Queen Zulu and Rex.
