University of New Orleans senior golfer Tom Watson finished in third place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, according to a March 31 announcement from the university. Watson led after the first round with a score of 65, which ties for the second-lowest single-round score in program history. He followed with a second-round score of 67 and completed the tournament with a total score of 208 (5-under par), tying for the seventh-best 54-hole score in school records.
Watson’s performance included making a career-high 16 birdies over three rounds at Magnolia Grove, which was also the second-highest total among all players in the field. He became only the third Privateer to record at least 16 birdies in one tournament during Head Coach Jeff Lorio’s tenure.
Other University of New Orleans golfers who contributed individual scores were Matthew Lotz (220), Taylor Boasberg (229), Maximilian Feistmantl (229), and Garrett Trahan (233). The team finished twelfth overall with a combined score of 879, leading all teams with four eagles and adding up to 45 birdies across their rounds. This season, New Orleans has scored under 900 as a team in seven out of eight tournaments.
The next event for New Orleans will be the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge taking place April 6-8 at True Blue Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Updates will be available on social media platforms associated with Privateers Golf.
