University of New Orleans golfer Tom Watson finished in the top 20 at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge, according to an April 8 announcement. Watson shot a total score of 216, marking his fifth top-20 finish this season.
Watson recorded the only under-par round for New Orleans with a four-under-par 68 during Tuesday’s second round. His performance included five birdies on the back nine and an eagle on hole 12, making it consecutive tournaments with an eagle for the senior from Liverpool. Between rounds two and three, Watson went 17 straight holes at par or better.
Maximilian Feistmantl was also among the leading Privateers, tying for 44th place with a score of 222. Feistmantl’s strongest stretch came in the second round when he made birdies on three of his final six holes.
The Privateers team finished in fourteenth place overall with rounds of 301, 289, and 302 for a total score of 892—placing ahead of Ohio and West Georgia. The team’s second-round score was their best at True Blue Golf Club since recording a third-round score of 282 during last year’s Golfweek Fall Challenge.
UConn claimed the team championship by one stroke over UAB after shooting six-under-par on Wednesday for a final tally of 850. In individual competition, UAB’s Alejandro Fierro edged out Kai Jun Huang from UConn by one stroke (207 to Huang’s 208).
New Orleans will conclude its regular season at the ASU Spring Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas on April 13-14. Live scoring will be available via Clippd Scoreboard and updates can be found through @PrivateersGolf on X.
