Tulane University pitcher Trey Cehajic has been named the American Conference Pitcher of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Monday. Cehajic, a graduate student from Shreveport, Louisiana, achieved this recognition after his performance against Eastern Kentucky on February 27.
In that game, Cehajic pitched seven innings, allowing only one hit and no runs while striking out 11 batters. Both his innings pitched and strikeout totals marked career highs. The seven innings also matched the longest outing by a Tulane starting pitcher this season, alongside Jack Frankel, and tied for the longest in the American Conference so far this year. Of his 11 strikeouts, nine were called third strikes. His total was the highest for any pitcher in the conference this season and represented the most by a Tulane pitcher since Michael Lombardi struck out 11 against Florida Atlantic during last year’s conference championships.
This is Cehajic’s first time receiving weekly honors from the conference. It marks Tulane baseball’s third weekly conference award this season and its thirteenth over the past two seasons.
Tulane’s upcoming schedule includes four consecutive road games beginning Tuesday, March 3, at Nicholls State in Thibodeaux. The team will then travel to Fort Worth to face TCU in a three-game series starting Friday.
