Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of tweets addressing the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on healthcare and federal workers.
On October 16, 2025, Carter wrote, “Today marks day 16 of the #RepublicanShutdown. I’m going live with the founder & CEO of #SmallBusinessMajority, John Arensmeyer, to discuss healthcare cuts, the importance of ACA tax credits, and how this impacts you.”
A day later, on October 17, he stated: “MAGA Republicans have kept our government shut down for over two weeks. They refuse to negotiate, but I refuse to let more than 270,000 Louisianians risk losing their health care. They’re blocking paychecks for federal workers because we won’t turn our backs on American families.”
On October 18, Carter shared details about his podcast episode with Dr. Maurice Sholas: “On Episode 6 of ‘What Makes America Tick?’ I sat down with Dr. Maurice Sholas — a physician executive making a real impact in our community. We discussed the importance of #NIH research funding, the dangers of cuts to #Medicaid and #Medicare, the need to prioritize #MentalHealth,”
Carter has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond and previously held positions in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana (BA, 1986), Carter continues to reside in New Orleans as he advocates for issues affecting his constituents.
