Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing both community engagement and federal immigration enforcement actions.
On January 26, 2026, Carter shared details about a local event he organized for the Chase family, stating: “In a show of solidarity and support for the Chase family, I organized a committee member and staff dinner at Chapter IV. Everything was amazing, as usual!”
Later that day, Carter turned his attention to national issues, specifically immigration enforcement by ICE. At 15:51 UTC on January 26, he wrote: “ICE has been threatening and enacting violence on communities across the United States, including in my home state of Louisiana. I’m being joined by @HomelandDems Ranking Member @BennieGThompson and other Democratic colleagues to talk about recent immigration enforcement actions”.
Continuing this discussion on immigration policy reform at 17:22 UTC, Carter tweeted: “The question is not whether immigration enforcement is necessary—it is how it is carried out.
We must ABOLISH ICE as we know it and reimagine the agency so that human rights, constitutional accountability, due process, and equal justice under law are non-negotiable.
America can”.
Carter has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond. He previously held seats in both the Louisiana House of Representatives (1992-1994) and the Louisiana Senate (2016-2021). Born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently residing there, Carter graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA in 1986.
