Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed a range of issues on his social media account on January 25, 2026.
In a post from early that morning, Carter responded to recent incidents involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), writing: “Today, another U.S. citizen was murdered by ICE. It hasn’t even been a month since Renee Good died. This violence we’re seeing is sanctioned by the dangerous rhetoric and reckless policies of Donald Trump and Kristi Noem.
I voted No on the ICE budget and I refuse to support it” (January 25, 2026).
Later in the day, Carter extended congratulations to a community member, stating: “Congratulations to my dearest friend Ed Robinson on being named the 2026 Grand Marshal of the Algiers Mardi Gras Festival! He is a lifelong Algiers resident and an incredible leader in our community. This honor is well deserved.” (January 25, 2026).
In another post that afternoon, Carter commented on controversy surrounding LSU head football coach Lane Kiffin’s political social media activity: “Recent attention around a political social media post by LSU head football coach Lane Kiffin has created an unnecessary distraction from what truly matters.
College athletics should never be about slogans or division. It should be about the young men who have worked their entire” (January 25, 2026).
Carter has served in Congress since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021 and previously held seats in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature. He was born in New Orleans in 1963 and continues to reside there. Carter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University of Louisiana.
