Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, marked International Women’s Day and addressed political disputes over a potential government shutdown in a series of posts on March 8, 2026.

Later that evening at 21:49 UTC, he commented on ongoing negotiations regarding a possible government shutdown, stating: “Republicans are refusing to negotiate to stop this shut down because they don’t want to hold @DHSgov accountable for ICE agents MURDERING U.S. citizens. Our TSA workers at MSY deserve to be paid, and Republicans need to stop trying to rewrite the truth and work with Democrats to”

Troy Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. Before his tenure in Congress, Carter served in both chambers of the Louisiana legislature—first as a member of the House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and then as a state senator from 2016 until his election to Congress.
He was born in New Orleans in 1963 and continues to reside there.
Carter is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
