Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing local politics, federal immigration enforcement, and cultural traditions.
On February 11, 2026, Carter congratulated Ed Murray on his election to the Louisiana House District 97. He wrote: “Congratulations to Ed Murray on being elected to Louisiana House District 97! His commitment to lowering the cost of insurance, expanding early childhood education, and making life more affordable for everyday Louisianians is exactly what our community needs. I look forward to https://t.co/1shn6rcHPi”.
The following day, Carter commented on actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), drawing parallels with authoritarian tactics. In a tweet dated February 12, 2026, he stated: “Right now, ICE’s actions mirror a fascist playbook: cheat, murder, lie about it, and practice the art of mass distraction. Later that same day, Carter highlighted Mardi Gras celebrations at the Capitol: “#MardiGras day is less than a week away! I’m bringing a taste of Louisiana to the Capitol by delivering king cakes to my colleagues. And remember, whoever finds the baby brings the next king cake! Laissez les bons temps rouler https://t.co/Cu4pHjCg57”.
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond in Congress. Before his current role in Washington D.C., he served in both chambers of the Louisiana legislature—first as a member of the House from 1992 to 1994 and later as a state senator from 2016 until his election to Congress in 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently residing there at age 59, Carter graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
