Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently expressed concerns over proposed fiscal policies and budget cuts by the Musk-Trump administration through a series of tweets on May 10, 2025.
In a tweet posted at 12:08 PM UTC, Congressman Carter criticized the GOP under Elon Musk and Donald Trump for “gutting Medicaid — slicing care for 1 in 3 Louisianans to fatten billionaire pockets.” He emphasized that various groups, including seniors and workers, are targeted by these cuts, declaring that “Louisiana says HELL NO.”
Later that day at 2:46 PM UTC, Carter accused the current administration of fiscal mismanagement despite promises of budgetary restraint. He noted that $220 billion more has been spent in the first 100 days compared to President Biden’s administration, with funds allegedly directed towards debt, defense, and billionaires instead of working families.
At 4:55 PM UTC, Congressman Carter addressed the dangers he perceives in the proposed FY26 budget. He warned it could dismantle important federal departments such as @usedgov, reduce clean energy initiatives, cut critical health services like those provided by @CDCgov and mental health programs, along with Medicare and Medicaid reductions.
Troy Carter has served Louisiana’s 2nd District since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021. His prior political experience includes terms in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter holds a BA from Xavier University of Louisiana.
