Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, has recently expressed his views on Medicaid and other political issues through a series of tweets. Serving in the U.S. Congress since 2021, Carter replaced Cedric Richmond and has a background in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.
On May 6, 2025, Congressman Carter shared a video link via YouTube defending Medicaid. In his tweet, he stated: “Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. Defends Medicaid.”
Later that day, Carter announced an initiative aimed at safeguarding Medicaid by launching a discharge petition to compel legislative action. He urged bipartisan support with his tweet: “We’ve launched a discharge petition to force a vote on legislation to protect #Medicaid. It’s time for Republicans to join us and put people over politics—because lives are on the line. Louisiana deserves better. Our nation deserves better.”
The following day, May 7, 2025, Congressman Carter criticized former President Donald Trump for allegedly prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires while neglecting essential funding for various programs. In his tweet, he remarked: “While Trump continues handing out tax breaks to his billionaire friends, he’s blocked at least $430 billion owed to everyday Americans. He’s taken funding from Head Start, farmers, cancer research, and more.”
Troy Carter was born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently resides there. He holds a BA from Xavier University of Louisiana.
