Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, shared his views and reflections on various issues through a series of tweets. These tweets addressed topics ranging from gun violence to personal tributes and societal encouragements.
On June 5, 2025, Congressman Carter highlighted the urgent need for action against gun violence, emphasizing its disproportionate impact on the Black community. He stated, “Gun violence impacts everyone, but it disproportionately devastates the Black community. It’s past time for action. Words alone won’t stop a bullet. The cost of doing nothing is measured in lives lost.” He called upon his Republican colleagues to join efforts in advocating for gun reform.
Later that day, Carter paid tribute to Brian North, a notable figure in New Orleans’ financial and educational sectors. He wrote, “Brian North was a beloved part of New Orleans. He spent his entire career at Fifth District Savings Bank, rising from teller to President & CEO.” North’s contributions extended beyond banking as he also served as Chairman of Jesuit High School’s Board.
On June 6, 2025, Congressman Carter encouraged embracing new beginnings with #StartOverDay by stating, “Today we celebrate #StartOverDay. Let us remember that pencils have erasers for a reason.” This message underscores the value of learning from mistakes and the opportunity each day presents for starting anew.
Troy Carter has been serving in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond. His career also includes terms in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.
