Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, has been vocal about various social issues in his recent tweets. His posts highlight the personal impact of Medicaid, honor a former mayor’s legacy, and criticize statements made during an Energy and Commerce Committee meeting.

On May 14, 2025, Congressman Carter shared the story of Katie and her husband Coye from Louisiana. “Katie is a special education teacher in Louisiana. Her husband, Coye, is a law enforcement officer. Thanks to Medicaid, their son Connor is alive today.” He emphasized that these are real individuals whose lives are affected by healthcare policies.

Later that day, Carter paid tribute to Kip Holden, the former Mayor-President of Baton Rouge. He acknowledged Holden’s historic role as the city’s first Black mayor and his dedication to community service. “Former Mayor-President of Baton Rouge, Kip Holden, served the city with dedication for over a decade.”

In another post on May 14th, Congressman Carter addressed comments made during an Energy and Commerce Committee meeting where Republicans reportedly described Environmental Justice as a method to “keep poor people poor.” He firmly opposed this view stating: “I’m not standing for that. Not now. Not ever.”

Troy Carter has served in Congress since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and holding a BA from Xavier University of Louisiana since 1986, he has also been part of the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate before joining Congress.
