Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a range of issues through his social media posts, focusing on government funding disparities, cannabis reform efforts, and lung cancer awareness.
On March 24, 2026, Carter criticized current funding policies during a Department of Homeland Security shutdown: “Did you know that ICE agents are still being paid while our TSA agents aren’t? Because of Trump’s Big Ugly Law, ICE funding continues during the DHS shutdown while Republicans are blocking efforts to ensure our hardworking TSA officers get paid. They are playing political games”.
The following day, March 25, Carter highlighted his ongoing advocacy for cannabis policy changes by sharing details about an annual event he hosts: “I hosted my 5th annual #CrawfishAndCannabis Reform event to talk about the urgent need for cannabis reform and equity in the industry. I also shared more about the #CLIMBAct, which I introduced this week to bring equal opportunity to our nation’s growing cannabis industry and”.
Later that same day, Carter drew attention to health concerns by participating in a campaign to support lung cancer awareness: “Today I’m wearing turquoise to raise awareness for lung cancer. Together, we can work toward better methods of prevention, early detection, and treatments to beat this disease. @LungAssociation”.
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond. He previously served in both chambers of the Louisiana state legislature—first in the House from 1992 to 1994 and later in the Senate from 2016 until his election to Congress. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA earned in 1986, Carter remains active on both local and national policy issues.
