Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, recently used his social media platform to highlight legislative efforts and voice concerns about democracy and public safety.
On September 18, 2025, Carter announced his continued support for policing reform: “I’m proud to again cosponsor the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act, reintroduced by @RepGlennIvey, to strengthen accountability in the courts, improve data and transparency, and reform training and practices for officers. Last year, I stood with Floyd’s family as we recommitted”.
Later that day, Carter emphasized disaster preparedness and the importance of AM radio: “As founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan #DisasterPreparednessAndRecovery Caucus, I’m proud to cosponsor the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. When disaster strikes, AM radio remains one of the most reliable, accessible, and resilient ways to deliver critical information to the”.
In a post on September 19, 2025, Carter expressed concerns about threats to democracy: “If you don’t think our democracy is at stake, then you’ve likely never read the Constitution, never sat through a Trump press conference, never seen him try to erase slavery from our history books, order troops into our cities without cause, silence the press and his critics, or”.
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. He previously served in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature over several decades. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986 with a BA degree, Carter has remained an active figure in both local and national politics.
