Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on social media addressing local traditions and national issues.
On January 6, 2026, Carter acknowledged Three Kings Day and its significance in Louisiana: “Today is Three Kings Day, and it’s even more special in Louisiana as it marks the beginning of the Carnival season. To everyone celebrating in #LA02, may the gifts of the Three Wise Men bring you joy and prosperity. And now, you can officially start eating king cake!”
The following day, January 7, he reflected on the anniversary of Tyre Nichols’ death: “Three years ago, Tyre Nichols was tragically and violently murdered by police who swore to protect him. He was a young father, son, artist, and a bright light to all who knew him. He should be with us today. We must seek justice for Tyre and ALL victims of police brutality by”
Later that same day Carter posted a brief message reading “Tomorrow!”
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of the Louisiana state legislature: first in the House from 1992 to 1994 and then in the Senate from 2016 to 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter continues to reside there today. He graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
