Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to highlight concerns about voting rights following the Louisiana V. Callais case.
Later that day, he posted again encouraging civic participation: “I voted early. I voted in every race, you should too!” on May 7.
On May 8, Carter announced plans to address fair representation at a state event: “The right to vote is under attack. I’ll be at the Louisiana State Capitol tomorrow speaking up for fair representation. Come out tomorrow at 9 AM and make your voice heard. #LouisianaVCallais #lalege”.
Carter succeeded Cedric Richmond in Congress in 2021 and has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District since then; he previously served in both chambers of the Louisiana Legislature ([source](#)). He was born in New Orleans in 1963 and graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA in 1986.
The tweets come amid increased attention on voting rights following recent court cases impacting electoral policies within Louisiana and nationwide.
