Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district, shared several statements on May 16, 2025, via social media platform X. The messages highlighted his appreciation for law enforcement, legislative efforts regarding shrimp import safety, and concerns about proposed tax policies.
In a message posted at 4:17 PM UTC, Carter expressed gratitude during National Police Week to law enforcement officers in Louisiana’s 2nd district. He acknowledged their service by stating, “During #NationalPoliceWeek, I want to thank the law enforcement officers in #LA02 who serve our communities with care and compassion.”
Later that day at 6:27 PM UTC, Congressman Carter announced the introduction of the bipartisan Safer Shrimp Imports Act alongside Representatives Mike Ezell and Julia Letlow. The bill aims to ensure foreign shrimp imports adhere to domestic safety standards. Carter emphasized its significance by noting, “I’m proud to introduce the bipartisan #SaferShrimp Imports Act with @RepEzell and @RepJuliaLetlow to hold foreign shrimp imports to the same safety standards as our domestic producers. This bill protects Louisiana families and supports our hardworking shrimpers.”
In another post at 11:15 PM UTC, Carter commented on Moody’s analysis regarding potential economic impacts of extending tax cuts initiated under former President Trump. According to him, these extensions could increase the deficit significantly over ten years. He critiqued this possibility by stating: “Moody’s—one of the world’s top credit rating agencies—says extending Trump’s tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy would add $4 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. Bad for working families. Bad for the economy. But hey, great for billionaires!”
Troy Carter has been serving in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. Prior to his current role, he was a member of both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.
