Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 2021, recently shared a series of messages on social media concerning important cultural and geopolitical issues. Carter, a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, resides in his birthplace of New Orleans and has a varied legislative history that includes service in the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana Senate.
In a tweet dated March 28, 2025, Carter informed the community about the Amistad Research Center’s book sale taking place on March 29 in New Orleans. “#LA02, this Saturday, March 29, don’t miss the unique opportunity to own a piece of Black history and support @AmistadResearch! Join the Amistad Research Center’s book sale from 10 AM – 3 PM at 6823 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans.”
In a subsequent post on the same day, he addressed misconceptions regarding American influence over Greenland, stating, “No, America can’t just “take over” Greenland. Any change in control requires full agreement from both Greenland and Denmark—through democratic and diplomatic processes. Anything else would violate international law and damage the U.S.’s global reputation. #InternationalLaw.”
Further expressing his views on cultural heritage, Carter opposed any initiatives to undermine African American historical institutions. He stated, “As a proud African American, I reject any attempt to defund or discredit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Our history is American History—it’s essential. Our stories matter. Our contributions helped build this nation. I will not be silent.”
