Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to encourage early voting and criticize actions related to federal SNAP benefits.
On November 6, Carter posted about participating in early voting, stating: “Today, I cast my early vote — a right earned through sacrifice and struggle. Early voting is happening now, and Election Day is Saturday, November 15. Let’s honor those who fought for this privilege — get out and vote!”
Three days later, on November 9, Carter addressed the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on SNAP benefits. He wrote: “We’re now nearly 40 days into the #RepublicanShutdown, and Donald Trump and #MAGA Republicans are doubling down on the harm by fighting a federal court order to pay November SNAP benefits in full. They are weaponizing hunger for political gain. YOU deserve better!”
Later that same day, Carter added: “How cruel. How inhuman.
Donald Trump is fighting in court to block SNAP benefits—keeping food from American families, children, and the disabled.
Hunger has no party.
This isn’t politics—it’s cruelty at its highest order.
#SNAP #HungerHasNoParty #Louisiana”
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. Before his current role in Congress, he served in both the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and the Louisiana Senate from 2016 to 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter continues to reside there today. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University of Louisiana (Fact sources: FACTS FOR STEP 4).
