Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing key political issues and legislative efforts. Serving in Congress since 2021, Carter has been an active voice on matters concerning healthcare and government policy.
On May 14, 2025, Congressman Carter highlighted the importance of Medicaid for individuals with disabilities. He emphasized its role in providing access to Home and Community-Based Services and warned against potential Republican-led funding cuts. According to him, such actions would significantly impact families relying on these services: “Medicaid is the reason people with disabilities have access to Home and Community-Based Services. It helps families like Connor’s. If Republicans cut Medicaid funding, programs like this will be gutted and real families will suffer.”
In another tweet from the same day, Carter recounted his extended participation in the Energy and Commerce Committee proceedings. He described a prolonged session where he stood against what he termed as a “cruel agenda” by his political opponents: “We spent 26 and a half straight hours in @EnergyCommerce fighting for the American people. While we didn’t have the votes to stop the Republicans’ cruel agenda today, we exposed their lies, and the fight is far from over.” Despite not securing enough votes to halt certain measures that day, Carter expressed determination to continue advocating for change.
Born in New Orleans in 1963, Troy Carter has had a long career in public service including roles in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate before his current congressional position. An alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA degree obtained in 1986, he remains actively involved in legislative processes impacting his constituents.
