Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared his thoughts on various issues through a series of tweets. The congressman has been serving since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond and has a history of public service in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.
On May 17, 2025, Congressman Carter acknowledged the service and sacrifice of individuals in the United States Armed Forces. He expressed gratitude by stating: “Today we recognize all the men and women who are serving or have served our country in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you to all members of the Armed Forces for your bravery and sacrifice.”
Later that day, he criticized actions taken by former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk regarding global food aid. In his tweet, he highlighted: “Trump & Musk cut global food aid and fired the staff to distribute it—now 60,000+ metric tonnes are rotting in warehouses. That’s food for 3.5 million people. Meanwhile, 1 in 5 Louisiana families go hungry. Second Harvest is stretched thin. The unhoused are starving.” This statement underscores concerns about food insecurity affecting many families in Louisiana.
In another post on May 17, Congressman Carter commemorated an important milestone in civil rights history—the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education—and voiced concerns over current educational policies under what he refers to as the “Musk-Trump admin.” He stated: “Today marks 71 years since Brown v. Board of Education affirmed that separate is never equal. As the Musk-Trump admin continues to attack diversity and the Department of Education, we must continue fighting for equity in every classroom.”
Congressman Troy A. Carter was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he currently resides at age 59. He graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor’s degree.
