Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed several issues on his social media accounts, including concerns for a New Orleans resident involved in an international flotilla and ongoing federal government shutdown negotiations.
On October 3, 2025, Carter expressed concern for the safety of Susan ‘Zue’ Jernstedt and others aboard an international vessel: “I am deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of Susan ‘Zue’ Jernstedt, a New Orleans resident and veteran, along with other Americans and international activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla. I’m closely monitoring this situation and have made my office available to https://t.co/scuRcMJ9Yk”.
Later that day, he commented on the ongoing government shutdown: “It’s Day 3 of the #RepublicanShutdown. Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the presidency—yet here we are, still waiting for them to negotiate. I’m fighting for our federal workers, our armed forces, and to protect your health care. https://t.co/dKEqNazXyL” (October 3, 2025).
On October 4, Carter continued to highlight local impacts: “The government shutdown is hurting Louisianians. Families are facing uncertainty, critical services are at risk, and the #ACA premium tax credits that allow working families to afford the health insurance they need still haven’t been extended. Carter has served as Louisiana’s 2nd District representative since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. He previously held positions in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature from 1992 through 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently residing there at age 59, Carter graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
