Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on his Twitter account between October 1 and October 2, 2025, addressing government operations, voter participation, and religious observance.
On October 1, Carter criticized Republican lawmakers for their handling of ongoing government funding negotiations. He stated: “Shutting down the government is reckless and irresponsible. Shame on the Republicans for fleeing town and refusing to negotiate as we fight for the healthcare of the American people. I’m still here with @HouseDemocrats and we’re not leaving.” (October 1, 2025).
Later that day, Carter reminded constituents about early voting opportunities ahead of Louisiana’s upcoming primary elections: “Reminder, #Louisiana: Early voting for the October 11th Open Primary/Orleans Municipal Parochial Primary runs until October 4th. You don’t need special permission to vote early and can do so at any designated location in your parish. #GeauxVote and make your voice heard! Find” (October 1, 2025).
On October 2, Carter extended wishes to those observing Yom Kippur: “Wishing all those observing in #LA02 and across the world a meaningful Yom Kippur. May this be a time of reflection and renewal.” (October 2, 2025).
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and the Louisiana Senate from 2016 to 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter continues to reside there and is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana.
