Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several policy and local issues on his social media account.
On July 16, 2025, Carter referenced state legislative actions regarding healthcare: “[The Republican lead Louisiana legislature] passed resolutions asking us, please don’t cut Medicaid, because they know what it will do to rural hospitals. They know what it would do to working families, they know what it would do to SNAP benefits in a state where nearly 30% of”. The statement highlights concerns over potential federal cuts to Medicaid and their impact on Louisiana residents.
Later that day, Carter marked a local celebration: “Happy National Hot Dog Day! Lucky Dogs have been a New Orleans staple since 1947, and they’re still one of my favorites. What’s your favorite hot dog in #LA02? Grab one today to celebrate!” This message references Lucky Dogs, a well-known New Orleans food vendor.
On July 17, 2025, Carter commented on proposed federal funding changes for public broadcasting: “Not only are Senate Republicans trying to dismantle @PBS and @NPR, they’re trying to TAKE BACK money that was already budgeted for public media! The message is clear: Republicans don’t believe that informing the public and educating our children are worth funding.”
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond. He previously served in both chambers of the Louisiana Legislature—from the House of Representatives (1992-1994) to the State Senate (2016-2021). Born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently residing there at age 59, Carter is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana.
