Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed constituents and national policy issues through a series of posts on social media.

On August 7, 2025, Carter highlighted his engagement with local communities by stating, “Last week, I hosted a town hall in @JeffParishGov to talk directly with you about the issues our communities are facing, especially in the wake of the #BigUglyLaw. Follow me on all platforms @RepTroyCarter to stay updated on future town halls and how we’re fighting back together.”

The following day, August 8, Carter commented on military policy regarding transgender service members: “Denying transgender service members their retirement after 15+ years of honorable service is cruel, unjust, and un-American. They served with dignity. Now they’re being cast aside. I won’t stand for it—I’ll keep fighting for our LGBTQI+ heroes. #LGBTQRights #ProtectTransTroops”

Later that same day, he criticized former President Donald Trump’s stance on benefits for transgender veterans: “Our veterans fought to protect our freedoms. Yet Trump wants to deny retirement benefits to transgender service members, simply because he doesn’t believe Americans should have the freedom to make choices about their own lives and bodies. This is disrespectful, unconscionable,”

Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd district since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond and previously served in both chambers of the Louisiana legislature from 1992 to 1994 and from 2016 to 2021 respectively. He was born in New Orleans in 1963 and continues to reside there. Carter earned his BA from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986.
