Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets from March 6 to March 7, 2026, covering topics from local sports achievements to civil rights history and notable figures.
On March 6, Carter congratulated Delgado Community College’s baseball team: “Congratulations to the @delgadocc baseball team as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of Louisiana’s first junior college athletics program. This remarkable program was founded by Louis “Rags” Scheuermann and continues today under the leadership of his son, head coach @Joescheu.”
The following day, Carter reflected on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday and current challenges to voting rights: “It’s been 61 years since 600 brave civil rights activists were viciously attacked for daring to march for the right to vote on #BloodySunday.
Now, that right is under attack. Any day now, #SCOTUS could hand down a decision determining whether Black voters in #Louisiana and”
Later on March 7, he posted a message honoring Rev. Jesse L. Jackson: “Rest in Peace, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson”
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. He previously served in both chambers of the Louisiana state legislature and was born and raised in New Orleans, where he currently resides. Carter earned his BA from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986.
