Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on May 8, 2026, addressing concerns about voting rights and civic engagement in Louisiana.

In two separate posts on the morning of May 8, Carter called attention to threats against voting rights and encouraged public participation at the Louisiana State Capitol. At 10:59 a.m., he wrote: “The right to vote is under attack. I’ll be at the Louisiana State Capitol tomorrow speaking up for fair representation. Join me TODAY at 9 AM and make your voice heard. #LouisianaVCallais #lalege”. Shortly after, at 11:13 a.m., he reiterated his message: “The right to vote is under attack. I’ll be at the Louisiana State Capitol tomorrow speaking up for fair representation. Come out TODAY at 9 AM and make your voice heard. #LouisianaVCallais #lalege”.

Later that day, Carter highlighted his participation in a discussion focused on youth empowerment and democracy protection, stating at 2:09 p.m.: “It was great to join @ltgrusselhonore and Dr. Monique Guillory for a fireside chat on the importance of empowering our young people and future leaders to protect our democracy. Thank you to @du1869 for having me. Let’s continue the fight for justice.”

Carter has served as the U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s 2nd District since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021. His political career includes prior service in both chambers of the Louisiana legislature—first in the House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and then in the Senate from 2016 until his election to Congress in 2021. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter continues to reside there today and is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana.
