Congressman Troy A. Carter, a representative of Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has been sharing a variety of updates on social media, ranging from historical family reflections to local achievements and personal tributes. Carter, who succeeded Cedric Richmond in 2021, has a longstanding political career including roles in the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana Senate.
On April 27, 2025, Carter reflected on the generational journey of his family and their contributions to the nation’s progress. In a tweet, he noted significant milestones, stating, “1932: No seats for people like us. 1934: A daughter born into segregation. 1992: A son elected to make change. A family’s journey — a nation’s journey — toward a more perfect union. #LegacyOfProgress”.
Later that day, Carter expressed pride in a local accomplishment, announcing the cultural recognition of his home city. He tweeted, “I’m proud to announce that @CityOfNOLA has been ranked the #1 most cultured in the U.S.! This certainly doesn’t come as a surprise as Louisiana continues to lead the way with our rich heritage and unmatched spirit. There’s truly no place like home!”. The announcement highlights New Orleans’ position as a cultural leader in the United States.
In a subsequent post, Carter honored an individual close to him, celebrating a significant birthday. On April 28, 2025, he tweeted, “On April 27, 1925 Hazel Ralph was born. She is a true matriarch, a retired homemaker who enjoys spending time with her family, taking casino bus rides, eating out, and attending Catholic mass. Hazel is cherished by all her children, grandchildren. Happy Birthday, Hazel!”. The tweet recognized Hazel Ralph’s role as a cherished family figure.
Troy Carter was born in New Orleans in 1963 and is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana, where he graduated with a BA in 1986. Carter’s career in public service is extensive and continues to impact his community positively.
