U.S. Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, posted a series of critical tweets on February 25, 2026, in response to former President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Carter questioned the accuracy of Trump’s statements regarding the economy and other domestic issues.
In his first post at 02:17 UTC, Carter wrote, “Oh, wow! strongest economy?? Lower utilities? Where, Mar A Lago??”
Shortly after, at 03:24 UTC, he stated, “Trump is lying about health care. He’s lying about grocery prices. And he’s justifying ICE’s attacks on our communities. This State of the Union speech isn’t leadership; it’s lies and more lies.”
Later that night at 03:48 UTC, Carter continued his criticism with another tweet: “Americans were lied to tonight during the State of the Union address. They were told that the economy is robust, yet families are experiencing daily financial strain. Since Donald Trump assumed the presidency, have your utilities, groceries, healthcare, childcare, or overall”
Carter has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond and previously held positions in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature. Born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently residing there, Carter graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986 with a BA.
